And Now We Sing

formed in early 2008. The band, fronted by Polish singer/songwriter Olenka Krakus, has a sound that mingles a strong Eastern European influence with elements of North American country and folk music. The band's diverse instruments (cello, violin, accordion, trumpet, saxophone, lap steel, mandolin and glockenspiel) provide a unique musical backdrop to Olenka's sophisticated, often narrative, form of songwriting. Influenced by her memories of Communist Poland and by the country's folklore, Olenka investigates themes of social injustice and personal responsibility, populating her songs with melancholy outcasts from both Polish and Canadian landscapes. preview the album here!:

Sound Of SiamLeftfield Luk Thung Jazz & Molam in Thailand 1964-1975

"The latest of Soundway's classy compilations, The Sound of Siam extends pop archaeology's reach to Thailand in the 60s and 70s. The results are an infectious fusion of Thai folk with western funk and rock. Luk-thung ("country song") was the music of the poor, its wavering – often female – voices telling tales of hard work and heartache over beats borrowed from James Brown or the Stones and Bollywood-tinged arrangements. For a taste of malam, from the Laotian north, try Sodsri Rungsang, wailing over a blues bass line, fiddle drone and twanging surf guitar. Spicy new flavours for the adventurous." - Neil Spencer

Soundway -
